You will work with school aged pupils mainly in comprehensive school settings, as well as within their primary school feeders. You will also be required to work outside of school hours and outside the school setting. Experience of working in a school is desirable but not essential. In addition to providing a direct counselling service, you will have an important role in developing the School Based Counselling initiative within Neath Port Talbot. Enhancing the skills of school staff will also be an important requirement for the role.
Applications are welcomed from those who hold a Professional Diploma in Counselling and are registered with the BACP or UKCP or equivalent. Although this is a new initiative you will join a friendly, lively and innovative Educational Psychology Team including school based counsellors, who are committed to assisting the LEA in the achievement of increased inclusion and raising educational standards.
Committed to the concept of inclusive education, you will have an understanding of the challenges facing schools in deprived areas and be a passionate supporter of high expectations and achievement for all pupils. By joining us you will have an appropriate induction period with regular professional and clinical supervision, partly achieved through attendance at team meetings and dedicated administrative and IT support.
